ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amy Delventhal

Originally from Connecticut, Amy Delventhal left there as development took over the rural area of her childhood. She found the simpler life she needed in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in 1986. An artist "for as long as I can remember", she realized her dreams of painting professionally in 1990. With family taking precedence, Amy works from a studio in her home in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.

Amy Delventhal has been described as a self-taught artist, but she questions that label. "It is my experience that no learning happens in a void. It's true that I haven't had much formal training, but I've taught and been taught every moment of my life. There are so many who deserve credit for whatever success I can claim....

As far back as we are able to trace, there have been women artists in my mother's family. I am fortunate to have this incredible gene pool to draw from and to have grown up painting with my mother and her mother, my Nana. I credit outstanding instructors from various classes, workshops and books for much of my artistic development. I must also gratefully acknowledge the influence, support, encouragement and love from my family and family of artist friends. They sustain me."

"I don't have a choice to paint or not. I must paint or I am lost. I see my ability as a gift which flows through me from our Higher Source and believe that I have a responsibility to honor that gift by sharing it."

Delventhal's work has been juried into shows from coast to coast and has been honored with numerous awards. Her paintings and portraits are in private and corporate collections internationally. Amy is a member of several artists' associations-- most notably the New England Watercolor Society and the American Society of Portrait Artists.

This year Amy has joined creative forces with two area artists who's work she greatly respects. The first of these ventures is with Daryl Ann Hurst, a fine artist who is known for her powerful compositions. Daryl and Amy are working together to present their work to galleries and have begun to show together regularly with great success and satisfaction. Having each other to consult and encourage has proven invaluable and moved Amy to approach Heather Harvey of "Go with the Faux", an interior decorative painter who is known for her acute color sensibility. Once again good things have come. "The business of promoting ourselves while finding time to create can seem overwhelming. It has always made sense to me that we would all be more successful if we combined our efforts."
